Linked are some leftover pictures from Danielle's camera.
I am feeling a lot better, but have been on a diet of Sanatarium "Up&GO" Liquid Breakfasts for the last 3 days. They go down smooth, but I do not recommend this diet to ANYONE. It is SHIT, and I will leave it at that. Perhaps Marcel can sticky tape my bottle of meds next to the evil cornchip at Stretguys.
We leave for Tanna tomorrow, to visit the volcano. It is late, and we have to get an early flight, so I am going to bed.
I am a moron in paradise.
Most people (you would imagine), would follow the directions on high strength Malaria medication, and take each tablet with a meal, and wash it down with water. I however, did not. In the middle of the night, I popped a tablet without anything else, and went to sleep. I awoke with it 2 hours later, stuck in my oesophagus, and burning like hell.
After a few days of discomfort, I went to the doctor, and was told that all I could really do is take some antacid stuff, and wait for the inflammation to settle. Funnily enough, It doesn't seem that I was the first white tourist to take this ailment to the central Vila medical centre, evidenced by the hearty chuckle Dr. Frank gave as he sent me out the door.
I am however, still very much enjoying my holiday. The only real downside to this also works to my advantage - no beer, soft drinks, burgers, and chips, mean that Jedda is not quite as portly as when he arrived. Couple that with some nice walks through the tropical wilderness, and I'd like to think that I have lost a little bit of weight.
The last few days have been lots of fun. Danielle and her nieces/nephews visited the new water park on it's "Launch Day", and had a great time jumping around. There are some great pictures linked below. We also visited the Le Cascade waterfalls at Mele - it was one of the more spectacular things I had ever seen. We took some fabulous pictures on Danielle's camera, which I will import and upload in the next few days.
We are at Le Meridien, Port Vila after staying with the family.
It's funny to be living in such luxury after living local for almost a week. It's lovely, but it almost feels like a bit of a cop out - like it is not a real experience. It has opened my eyes to how obnoxious and awful Australian tourists can be.
We are having a lovely time with Sue and Rory since they arrived on Sunday night. We caught a Taxi out to meet them for an 11:30pm arrival, but the flight was delayed until 1:00am. After a long wait in the middle of the night, they finally touched down. Bauerfield airport in Vila is incredible - you can literally view the planes land right next to the runway - the sound is incredible!
There are some great photos linked below of our time with the family out at Mele, and the last few days in Vila and at the resort.
In the next few days, we are going on a tour of a traditional village, and having a Melanesian feast. We also hope to visit La Cascade (the waterfalls), and spend some more time with the family out at Mele. Even considering how small Port Vila is, it is much nicer to get out of town, into the bush, and relax with a nice Tusker beer.
I drank 2 shells of Kava today with Danielle's sisters, and felt completely stoned though the late afternoon and dinner. It still hasn't completely worn off now, and I can feel myself rambling.
With that, I will sign off. I will post again, along with some more photos, before we visit Tanna next Monday.
Tank yu tumas for reading my blog!
Port Vila is wet and hot. It has rained a lot for the past 2 days, which is apparently very unusual for this time of year.
We arrived very late after a delayed flight, and didn't get home and settled until almost 1am, so Weds was a long day of travel. Sydney International Terminal is being renovated, and was shit.
On Thursday morning, we walked down the hill to the market to buy some fruit, and have a look around. There are some great pictures in my Flickr account, which is linked below. After that, we had lunch at Olympic Takeaway in central Vila, which was as off the hook as I remember. I had literally been craving a 'Bigfala' burger since I was last here. We spent the rest of the afternoon travelling around Vila, and checking out the Le Lagon resort, which had changed significantly since our last visit.
We are very much enjoying staying with, and spending time with Danielle's family, and have been having a lot of fun with the kids. Last night, we fired up Wii sports, and spent a few hours bowling, and playing baseball.
Today we treked out to Hideaway Island in Mele Bay. It was lovely, and we had a great lunch, but it began to rain fairly heavily as we returned home.
We are about to head down to the Anchor Inn with Murray for a drop of Tusker, so I will cut it short, and report back in the next few days.
